Vintage armchair shell on a cat’s cradle base, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. This example, in the sought-after Elephant’s Hide Grey colorway, features a richly textured surface with visible fiberglass threads, beautiful depth of color and an attractive patina. The LAR (Low Armchair Rod Base), designed as a lounge-height chair, was one of the “original 5” base types introduced in 1950. The low-slung Cat’s Cradle base, constructed from polished metal rods, adds an architectural quality to the design. In fantastic condition, with no cracks or major flaws. Minor surface patina to the metal frame has been left intact. Stamped with the Herman Miller emblem underneath.
